Frequently Asked Questions: Course Work

How do I sign up for classes?

You will meet with an academic advisor and register for classes at new student Orientation. Remember to review the Placement Website, the Learning Community Website, and the New Student Technology Tutorial before attending Orientation. The technology tutorial will introduce you to UConn’s Student Administration System so that you will know how to register for classes during your Orientation session. Be sure to let your advisor know what Learning Communities may interest you.

Can I take classes between semesters?

Yes you can. UConn offers credit courses during the summer and winter. Visit the Summer Session website for more information on course listings and registration requirements. We recommend that you check with your academic advisor before taking summer or winter courses. Your advisor will verify if your selected courses will fit into your future plan of study.

How much time will I spend studying outside of the classroom?

How do I change my selected UConn major?

To change your intended UConn major before the start of classes, send your request via postal mail to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Your letter should include your name, address, the student ID number that was listed on your letter of Admission, and your signature. If possible, you should submit your request before attending New Student Orientation. If you wish to change your major after the start of classes, you need to go to your specific school or college.
