First Year Programs
Your UConn experience will be a time of new adventures. The beginning of college life is incredibly exciting, but it is also a period of transition. You may be thrilled about the vast opportunities ahead, but also have some apprehension about what is to come. First Year Programs is one of many offices on campus who are here to help smooth your transition to college and offer the resources you need to be successful.
UConn’s Office of First Year Programs offers classes, academic support, Learning Communities, and peer education opportunities. Students learn the smart approach to academic and personal challenges. Our popular First Year Experience (FYE) classes provide weekly seminars and discussion groups that will help you transition to University life. You’ll attend class with other new students that share your same questions, concerns and anxieties about college. Class topics include study skills, time management and major and career exploration, as well as seminar courses and Learning Community courses with a wide variety of themes.
