New Student Technology Tutorial
New students are required to review the New Student Technology Tutorial, which familiarizes you with important technology-related services that you will use frequently as a UConn student. The tutorial will introduce you to UConn’s Student Administration system, which you will use to register for classes at Orientation. It also highlights how to obtain your Net ID and UConn email address.
The Technology Tutorial is composed of three parts. Each part contains instructions on accessing student systems as you need them. It is important to complete all three parts of the tutorial in the recommended time frames.
Part 1
Part 1 of the Technology Tutorial should be completed as soon as you are admitted to the University. You will learn how to:
- Activate Your NetID – Your NetID identifies you as a University student and gives you access to certain services, such as HuskyMail (see below for more information about this service). You retain the same NetID throughout your career at UConn.
It is important that you know your Net ID and password for Orientation.
- Access and configure go.uconn.edu– This website provides centralized access to select University accounts and resources. Students, faculty, and staff at the University of Connecticut can choose and organize content such as:
- University events calendar
- Headlines from top news sources
- Weather forecasts
- Schedules for buses, TV, and movies
- To Do list
- Access Your HuskyMail Account – Part 1 of the tutorial also will show you how to activate HuskyMail, your University email account. It is important to log into HuskyMail frequently, as many University departments will communicate with you solely by HuskyMail.
If you are an applicant for financial aid, the Office of Financial Aid Services may be one of the first departments to contact you via HuskyMail regarding your aid application and awards.
- Log into the Student Administration System – The Technology Tutorial will show you how to log into the Student Administration system to conduct University business, such as registering for classes, taking action on financial aid awards, checking grades, and updating personal information.
Note: Account passwords for any student or University system are the property of the student and, as such, are not released to parents or third parties.
Part 2
Part 2 of the Technology Tutorial should be completed prior to attending an Orientation session or a registration session at a regional campus. During Part 2 of the tutorial, you will learn how to:
Storrs Campus
- Prepare for Class Registration – Navigate the Student Administration System to search the course catalog and schedule of classes.
- Use HuskyCT – HuskyCT is an e-learning tool frequently used by instructors to post reading materials, give quizzes and facilitate discussions outside of class. Through HuskyCT, you also will be able to access First Year Interactive, an interactive website that provides new students with information about important UConn events and the opportunity to interact with other students, Orientation staff, and UConn faculty and administrators.
Regional Campuses
- Prepare for Class Registration – Navigate the Student Administration System to search the course catalog and schedule of classes.
You will register for classes during Orientation at the Storrs campus, or during a registration session if you are attending a regional campus.
Part 3
Part 3 of the Technology Tutorial should be completed after Orientation/Registration and prior to the first day of classes. Here, you will learn about:
Storrs Campus
- Computer Technology Competencies – These tutorials, available through HuskyCT, are designed to cover computer skills that you will use in many classes at UConn.
